Super heated air can cause as much damage as the flames.



Water, Smoke and Time is the big problem. Synthetics catch fire and let off smoke. Water is used to put the fire out. The moisture in the air mixes with the smoke. The smoke has an acidic (hydrochloric) base. This turns the moisture in the air into hydrochloric acid. This gets on the metals in the house, the cottons, the woods, the silks and the glass and starts to etch them with in 24-48 hours.



WATER & MOLD


Water can get in your home many different ways. Roofs, Pipes, Backups, floods, wind driven rain. The building materials can hold the water and make appear that there is no damage.


Mold feeds on organic material. The paper on the drywall is the favorite food of the common household molds.


More long term damage.

It is said that mold needs warm temperatures to grow. Not always true.


WATER




When a washing machine hose bursts in a house, it is like putting a garden hose in your house and turning it on. More often than not, the hot water side will burst first.


The valves under your sink or under your toilet can slowly leak for a long time.


In one square yard of carpet and padding, 3-5 gallons of water can be stored. Let's say this area is 30' by 30' in size. 30'x 30' = 900 square feet of wet flooring. The water was 1 ½ inches deep.


HOW MANY GALLONS OF WATER EXTRACTED:
(sfsw)= square feet of standing water or wet carpet. (.625) is the factor used to calculate how much water in 1 inch deep water. (gow1"dp)= gal. of water in 1"deep water. (ad) = actual depth found in affected area. (gsw)= gal. of standing water.

___900__(sfsw) x .625 = _562.50(gow1"dp) x _1.5___(ad) = _843.75_(gsw)

843.75 gallons of water on the floor in a 30' by 30' area. One more thing; water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon of water. 843.75 gallons of water times 8.34 pounds per gallon = 7,036.88 pounds of water. Can you see why time is of the essence?
